Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry or pie crust
- 4 large apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup apricot jam
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the pastry: Preheat your oven to 190°C. Roll out the puff pastry or pie crust on a lightly floured surface to fit your tart pan. Press the pastry into the pan and trim any excess. Prick the bottom with a fork.
- Arrange the apples: In a large bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with the lemon juice, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon (if using). Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the pastry, overlapping slightly.
- Dot with butter: Dot the apple slices with small pieces of butter.
- Bake the tart: Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden color when baked. Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Glaze the tart: While the tart is baking, heat the apricot jam in a small saucepan over low heat until it becomes smooth and slightly liquid. If the jam is too thick, add a tablespoon of water to thin it out.
- Finish and serve: Once the tart is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately brush the warm apricot jam over the apples to give them a glossy finish. Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving.
